Jon-Don to Host Barry Costa’s Final Live Stream WRT Training Dates

Barry Costa announces retirement plans and shares that Jon-Don will host his final live stream IICRC Water Restoration Technician (WRT) training dates in 2024.

Chicago, IL (June 2024) Jon-Don, a leading supplier of commercial supplies, equipment, consumables, and know-how to specialty contractors, announced that it will host the final classes for Barry Costa of Costa Group Education’s live stream IICRC Water Restoration Technician (WRT) training in 2024 before his retirement.

Barry announced his plans to retire at the end of 2024 after more than 50 years in the restoration industry and 38 years of teaching. Throughout his distinguished career in the cleaning and restoration industry, Barry has served on and chaired many national committees, been a contributing author to the national water damage standards, been a key speaker at conventions and special events, and authored many articles in industry publications.

Since becoming an IICRC approved instructor in 1986, Barry has taught thousands of cleaning and restoration contractors around the world, helping them to earn certifications in carpet repair and reinstallation and water damage restoration, and numerous other certifications. Barry taught in-person WRT training for many years before moving to exclusively live stream/online training in 2020.

“Barry is an absolute legend in the cleaning and restoration industry and quite literally wrote the book on water damage restoration standards. The positive impact he has had on the industry and his students is simply immeasurable,” said Alexandra Gualtieri, Director of Content, Training, and Communications for Jon-Don. “Jon-Don has had the pleasure of working with Barry for more than 20 years, and we are honored to host the final WRT classes of his career.”

"What a ride! I am grateful to Jon-Don for having hosted so many of my classes throughout the years. Their commitment to serving the restoration industry and the success of their customers has been the foundation of a strong and long-term partnership," Barry Costa said. “A huge thank you to all the companies that sent their staff members to my classes, and of course, to all my students that I was blessed to have over the years.”

Students interested in signing up for one of Barry’s final live stream WRT classes can find the available schedule of dates on Jon-Don's Training Hub at https://learn.jondon.com/.

IICRC’s Upcoming Fire Standards to be Focal Point Under New Colorado Fire Restoration Study Law

IICRC’s Upcoming Fire Standards to be Focal Point Under New Colorado Fire Restoration Study Law

Las Vegas, Nevada – June 12, 2024: For more than five years, the IICRC and its volunteers have been working diligently to develop two accredited-industry standards: the S700 Standard for Professional Fire
Damage Restoration and the S760 Standard for Professional Wildfire Investigations and Restoration of Impacts to Structures, Systems, and Contents. Now the state of Colorado is interested in using these
standards in an upcoming study on the remediation of property damaged by fire.

In 2021, a wildfire, colloquially known as the Marshall Fire, ravaged portions of Boulder County in Colorado. Following the fire, many residents were in dire need of fire restoration services. Unfortunately, some of these citizens experienced subpar work from contractors. This led a group of state legislators to put forth HB24-1315.

The bill directs the Division of Insurance to conduct a study regarding the remediation of residential premises that have been damaged from smoke, soot, ash, and other contaminants as a result of a fire.
As a part of the study, the Division will be required to consider any existing standards, “including any relevant standards established by the Institute of Inspection, Cleaning, and Restoration Certification…”
In addition, the bill states that the Division may engage with stakeholders from the restoration and remediation industries in Colorado. The results and recommendations of the study shall be provided to
the legislature by January of 2026.

“Federal and state governments have a history of utilizing voluntary consensus-based standards for policy objectives,” said IICRC’s Director of Government Relations Robbie Bradshaw. “We’re glad to see
Colorado is looking to IICRC’s standards in this instance.”

The IICRC and its volunteers have been working tirelessly to develop these fire standards for our industry,” said IICRC President/Chairman Carey Vermeulen. “We look forward to working with Colorado’s Division of Insurance and providing the standards to them once they are published.”
